WHO I AM
Sydney based designer, brand & digital strategist, social entrepreneur and photographer, Relmi Damiano, was born in Patagonia, south of Argentina in the 80’s. At the tender age of eight she was already discovering the world with a paintbrush and camera in her hands.
While in school, Relmi developed her skills at the Willoughby Art Centre and the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney. After receiving several arts awards and showing her work in the prestigious Melbourne and Sydney Art Show, Relmi established her photography and art business in 2005.
Relmi’s work continued to evolve as she applied her creative knowledge and flair to a number of design projects, including self-promotional pieces for her photography and her parents’ business ventures.
Migrating to several countries from a young age, Relmi has always been curious about people and cultures, so travelling the world is one of her passions. Documenting and capturing images to share with others and then incorporating them into her designs is what makes her style distinctive.
In 2007 Relmi was the subject of a video produced by Coup Films which was based on her life, career, travels and portraying Relmi as an ambassador of Gen Y. Through inspirational stories and interviews of generational guru Avril Henrey, legendary rock n’ roll photographer Tony Mott, art mentor & teacher Peter Maynard, the qualities and perspectives of this generation are revealed.
Eager to further develop her skills, Relmi took further study and graduated with a Bachelor of Digital Media from Billy Blue College of Design in July 2010, also being awarded several times for her academic excellence and leadership capabilities. Throughout her college days, she continued to work freelance with a number of companies in Australia and the US, building the business she set up at the age of 15.
Relmi has specialised in the brand creation and implementation of not just her own business ventures but a number of other small to medium companies, focusing on their print and online presence as well as overall marketing strategies.
Due to the influence of her mother, author and speaker Silvia Damiano, her work has centered around the leadership, emotional intelligence, personal development and coaching spaces. Her experience and interest in theses fields has led her to co-found a social enterprise called About my Brain. Combining both Silvia’s Neuroleadership expertise and Relmi’s world of design and art, this venture intends to bring together three communities, neuroscience, business and the arts.
Relmi’s role in About my Brain has led her to develop a strategic outlook in regards to business and social entrepreneurship. Although she enjoys to design visual identities in the print and digital world, she has a knack for developing successful marketing and social strategies. She also believes that social responsibility should be part of any enterprise, and this is why About my Brain is a vehicle to help her promote and mentor young talent as well as sharing the learning she has acquired through her experiences.
Relmi has also project managed and creatively led two events; “The Billy Blue July 2010 Graduate Exhibition”, as well as the inception of the first annual Brain Art Exhibition & Unconference, which was held in March 2011. Designing and implementing promotional strategies for these exhibitions has further enhanced Relmi’s skills set.
Only 10 months after graduating, Relmi was invited back to Billy Blue College of Design to share her expertise and lecture 3rd year students in design thinking and innovative business solutions. Relmi is currently studying an MBA at Macquarie Graduate School of Management.
Relmi’s talent in design & business strategy, enthusiasm for human studies, and philosophical approaches allows her see beyond what most people tend to see, as she finds her way to “making the invisible visible.”
